CREATE MORE MOMENTS & MEMORIES
If you think about the best part of life, it is that collection of moments and memories that you have accumulated from a lifetime of crazy experiences. Often, some of the most memorable events, or most significant moments sound minor and trivial to others. They may have even seemed minor or trivial to you at the time. However, as the years go by the impact of those moments and memories grows.
Since The Weekly Trio is all about helping you reap a 30/60/100 fold increase in your business and personal life, let’s spend today on a simple technique for increasing your moments and memories.
“If it’s not growing it’s going to die.”
[Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney]
The Power of Thinking Twice
How many times do you think, speak and act based on your first impulse, your first thought? For most of us, the answer is probably most of the time. But, what if you imposed a governor on yourself to always think twice. Let the first impulse pass, wait for the second. This delay may take all of 3 seconds!
In that short time, you could start considering new and different alternatives that your brain otherwise would unconsciously never consider because of your embedded, habitual programmed approach to live by a short fuse that takes action based on a first response.
Some great distinctions that would come from such a minute delay, while your brain processes a second impulse, would include overriding the following impulses to:
> giving up before trying, because you feel helpless
> shunning a challenge, because it seems daunting
> settling for the status quo, because you lack vision
> shirking responsibility, because it’s easier to shift blame
> doing the mere minimum, because that’s all that is expected
> avoiding taking action because you fear failure.
Three Second Delay + One Day - Ending Power Question will Change Your Life
With the power of delaying your response to allow your brain to have a second impulse, now you can consider what you really want, what your goals are, what response you would feel is consistent with your values. It only takes three seconds to empower yourself. Just think, in the delay of three seconds, you could now say only what you know - instead of what you don’t; you could cultivate care, kindness and a heart of service - instead of me first; and you could impart optimism, edification and encouragement - instead of criticizing, condemning and complaining.
This simple three second delay, coupled with a deliberate change in your focus and approach will transform your relationships, your efforts and your day.
So now, you are ready for one simple, yet high-impact, day-ending power question. Get in the habit of asking yourself - “What was my favorite part of today?”
This simple question assumes there will be an answer — that means you will have a favorite part of the day. Isn’t that a great gateway to creating moments and memories? If your day-ending question were to become an absolute habit that you performed without fail, everyday, do you suppose that you might live each day differently knowing that you wanted to really give yourself a challenge in figuring out what was your favorite part of the day — with so many to choose from.
Play with this idea, try it, modify it. Get in the habit of asking yourself - what was my favorite part of:
- the trip, the meeting, the exercise class, the movie, the book, the telephone call, of doing my taxes, of walking the dog, of cutting the lawn, of reading my e-mail, of going to work, of living where I do, of being an American, of having 2 children, of not knowing everything, of loving my spouse?
Once you get good at asking yourself what your favorite part of something is — then get good at asking others that question, and teaching them the power of them creating a new habit of asking themselves that question every day!
Let’s overwhelm the junk of life, with a mountain of favorite moments and memories!
By the way — my favorite part of doing The Weekly Trio is thinking about one of you, getting excited from one nugget in such a way that you change your life, your business, something, anything that gives you the potential to experience a 30/60/100 fold increase in life!
“Successful people attain the results they expect over time,
because they use far fewer negative words, and far more positive words to
describe their performance and their life — at every point in time.”
DAILY PRAYER
Father, may we focus on positive, uplifting and encouraging words to describe ourselves, our performance and our life. May we pause three seconds to gain the benefit of a second mental, emotional and physical impulse. Finally, help us to remember to reflect back over events and individual moments in time (like daily) and identify our favorite parts, our favorite moments, our favorite memories. In Jesus name, Amen.
Think twice, reflect more, find your “favorite part/moment/memory” all the time.
Grace and peace multiplied to you.
